Reading for Pleasure Celebrated in School 🎉📚
We are very proud to announce we have been awarded the Lincolnshire Reading Pledge Bronze Award!
The Lincolnshire Reading Pledge has been developed by Witham St Hugh's English Huband L.E.A.D. Teaching School Hub.
The ultimate aim of the Lincolnshire Reading Pledge is to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, needs or abilities, becomes a confident, fluent and enthusiastic reader. There really is no greater gift we can give our children as a school and as parents. It is our aim that children will leave St Gilbert of Sempringham C of E Primary and Nursery School with appreciation of and passion for literature which will provide the foundations for future learning and enjoyment.
To achieve the award staff and pupils worked towards meeting a range of criteria throughout the academic year.
Children across all year groups, access a broad range of high-quality texts, both fictional and non-fictional. Storytelling is given prominence within all classes and all children are encouraged to read widely for pleasure and enjoyment.
Thank you to everyone who supported our World Book Day, shared reading days and reading for pleasure events which helped towards the achievement. All our children have made a fantastic contribution towards our school attaining this award!
We believe that reading is the gateway for children that makes leaning possible. Here are at St Gilbert of Sempringham C of E Primary and Nursery School everybody is a reader.
We look forward to continuing our journey towards achieving Silver!

Summer Reading Challenge
Mrs Tubb held an assembly to explain to children about the Summer Reading Challenge. We are excited to find out how many books children will read over the summer holiday!
Reading for Pleasure Event
Our Reading Ambassadors helped to organise an after school event for parents, carers and family members to come and read for pleasure. They carefully chose a variety of books from our school library and set up areas on our field.
Thank you to everyone who attended.
Shared Reading
Shared reading with peers is important because it fosters collaboration, builds confidence, and enhances understanding of texts. It provides a supportive environment for developing literacy skills, encouraging active engagement, and promoting a love for reading.
We love to share our books with children from different classes!
World Book Day 2025
This year on World Book Day - Thursday 6th March - we celebrated night time reading. All children (and staff!) came to school wearing their comfiest pyjamas, onesies and dressing gowns to enjoy a day full of activities.
A range of activities throughout the day were also based around the book Flooded by Mariajo Ilustrajo.
Virtual Authors
Our school is situated in a small village in rural Lincolnshire. Virtual authors are important because they enable us to connect with authors across the country, fostering engagement with literature and inspiring creativity.
Reading Ambassadors
Our Reading Ambassadors foster a love of reading within our school community. They encourage other students to read more and promote a positive reading culture.
Reading Spine
Our reading spine is a collection of 10 high-quality books for each year group. These are designed to build a strong foundation for literacy and a love of reading.
