Information about the start of term in September

Dear All,

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer break.  The weather has been quite kind to us so far; long may that continue! Schools have been in the press a lot lately with lots of speculation about the return for English schools in September. At St. Gilbert’s Primary School and Nursery, we are in the throes of preparing for a full return. We anticipate ALL children will be returning full time (nursery children will continue to schedule their sessional care package with the nursery team). In the next few weeks, I will record a returning to school and nursery video so the children can get a flavour of what school will be like: where they will come into school; the routines they will expect to follow and other useful pieces of information. This video will be posted on Facebook, Twitter and Class Dojo.  We have decided not to offer Hot School Meals (HSM) in September but you are able to order a pack-up if you require and Free School Meal (FSM) children will of course have this provision in place too. Please remember to order your school lunches via the Willoughby Foods website. We will review this ready for Term 2. By not providing HSM, it means we have the capacity for a full internal clean of the school at lunch time.

At this moment in time, I believe school buses will run as normal from the beginning of term. Children are expected to wear a face covering on the bus during their journey. Please make sure you provide your child with a covering they are able to put on and take off themselves. We will be supporting children with seating arrangements so they are sitting with children either from their household or from their class. Further information on this will be shared at a later date.

School uniform may be challenging for some of you to access during this strange time. We ask that children are in uniform, although we will be flexible and understanding of families circumstances and the challenges you face at this time. On PE days, children will be expected to come into school in PE kits to reduce the challenges of getting changed. Your child’s class teacher will communicate this information to you when you return to school.

As you may be aware, Lydia will begin her maternity leave at the end of August as she prepares for her new bundle of joy to arrive, best wishes Lydia. We have made provision for Miss Leek to oversee Nursery and Reception as an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) unit. These children all follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum (0-5 years old) and this cover seems a very sensible approach to provide seamless cover for the high quality service we provide here at St. Gilbert’s. Lydia and Miss Leek have been very busy ‘handing over’ throughout the summer term, so we are well prepared. The team of staff supporting Miss Leek in the EYFS Unit are all staff the children are familiar with: Mrs Chapman, Mrs Timings, Jade and Clare so you will be well looked after. The children will have a key worker as normal and the provision will run as you have seen it do so previously you may some differences in the afternoon with a range of provision set out across the two rooms to enhance the space and resources available to all children. Phonics and Math’s sessions will run in the mornings as they always have.

To supplement the team, we welcome Miss Chloe Wilson who will be undertaking her TA Apprenticeship. Miss Wilson will be working with children in the Common Blues and the Marbled Whites and I am sure we will all make her feel very welcome. I am also delighted to inform you that we have appointed Mrs Amanda Bower as our Senior Administrator in school. Mrs Bower will work full time Monday to Friday in the office, lots of handover is happening as I type. A warm welcome to her and we wish Zoe all the best of luck.

Annual reports to parents:

We hope you all received your electronic copy of your child’s school report back in July. We sent them out electronically for ease during COVID restrictions and to keep costs down to prevent lots of postage expenses. However, if you would like a paper copy printing, please could you make a request in writing via email to admin@pointon.lincs.sch.uk or Class Dojo and we will endeavour to get these prepared and ready for you to collect before the end of September.

I will be in touch again before we return in September and wish you all a happy summer.

Best Wishes Mrs Hunt
